Blissful Ordinariness

Have you ever stopped to think about the small things? I am talking about being able to shower, brush your teeth, flip channels on the T.V., do laundry, etc.. Well, these make up the "blissful ordinariness" of our lives. This term describes the ordinary activities or steps that we do in order to keep our daily routine. This is a key aspect for an occupational therapist as we take a holistic approach towards our clients. In other words, we look at what is meaningful to the client, and we take into consideration their entire life, not just the illness or injury. This is the special characteristic of all occupational therapist. In taking this approach, OT's create a therapeutic relationship with the client. This relationship is not only important to the client as it makes them feel cared for, but it also is important for the therapists. It allows the therapists, in most cases, to gain information from the client in order to better understand their "blissful ordinariness". So, conclusively occcupational therapists take a holistic approach which, in most cases, generates a therapeutic relationship with the client. This relationship leads to the gaining of knowledge about the client's "blissful ordinariness" which allows the therapists to plan a proper intervention plan.
